Sunny Deol’s latest film Jaat is facing challenges at the box office, falling short of expectations set by his previous blockbuster Gadar 2. Despite a promising weekend, Jaat has yet to cross the Rs 50 crore mark after five days of release.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 7.5 crore on Monday, bringing its total domestic earnings to Rs 47.75 crore. The film opened on Thursday with Rs 9.5 crore, followed by a dip to Rs 7 crore on Friday. However, it bounced back slightly over the weekend, earning Rs 9.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 14 crore on Sunday.
While trade experts, including Taran Adarsh, had predicted strong Monday numbers due to the Ambedkar Jayanti holiday, Jaat experienced a typical weekday slump instead. This unexpected drop raises concerns about the film’s long-term performance.
Jaat was expected to build on the massive success of Gadar 2, which had a record-breaking opening of Rs 40.1 crore and went on to earn Rs 686 crore worldwide. In comparison, Jaat has managed only Rs 47.75 crore in its first five days, far below the Rs 228.98 crore that Gadar 2 earned in the same period.
To make matters more competitive, Jaat is currently sharing screen space with Salman Khan’s Sikandar, which has collected Rs 109.39 crore in 16 days. On Monday alone, Sikandar added another Rs 29 lakh to its total.
Trade analyst Sumit Kadel stated that Jaat could still become a hit if it manages to enter the Rs 100 crore club. However, with weekday trends already setting in, its journey toward that milestone remains uncertain.
Sunny Deol, who made a major comeback with Gadar 2 after decades without a solo hit, has more projects lined up. His upcoming film Lahore: 1947, a period drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, has already created buzz among fans.
