Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced plans to develop a Mega Global MediCity in Amaravati, aiming to transform the city into a hub for world-class healthcare and medical tourism. The project will be developed on 200 acres of land under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged families to cut down on salt, oil, and sugar to prevent chronic diseases. He recommended monthly limits for a 4-member family: 600g salt, 2L oil, and 3kg sugar, stressing their role in heart and kidney issues.
He also promoted 30 minutes of daily walking and prayer or meditation to reduce stress and improve mental health.
Out of the total land, 100 acres will be used for advanced healthcare services including multi-specialty hospitals with global standards. Another 40 acres will be allotted for residential purposes, providing accommodation for medical staff, patients, and their families. The remaining 20 acres will be allocated for commercial use—including medical research facilities, pharma companies, wellness centers, and other supporting services.
The initiative is a joint effort by the Health Department and CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) and is expected to boost health tourism in the region. Naidu stated that this MediCity would also help position Amaravati as a destination for global healthcare investment.
As part of the broader healthcare expansion plan, the state government also plans to develop 100 to 300-bed hospitals in every Assembly constituency. Currently, only 70 of the 175 constituencies have such hospitals. The new facilities will be developed primarily through PPP to ensure quality infrastructure and service delivery.
Additionally, the government is working to introduce virtual consultation services in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) to improve access to specialist care in rural areas.
The state also plans to collaborate with international organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to enhance public health programs. Emphasis is also being placed on preventive healthcare, lifestyle awareness, and strengthening addiction treatment by upgrading 25 existing drug de-addiction centers and setting up 13 new ones.
This healthcare vision includes special focus on tribal and remote areas, with plans for more dialysis centers, equipment upgrades, and filling vacant doctor positions.
Through this holistic and inclusive approach, Andhra Pradesh aims to become a leader in healthcare delivery, education, and innovation.
AP’s Health Burden:
80% of the state’s disease load comes from 10 major conditions, with cardiovascular diseases (18–22%), diabetes (12–15%), and respiratory illnesses (10–12%) topping the list.
Coming Soon: A Global Medi-City will be developed in Amaravati over 200 acres under a PPP model, featuring international hospitals and boosting medical tourism. It’s part of a national plan to set up 25 such cities across India.
