In a bold move that has reignited tensions between the world’s two largest economies, the Trump administration has imposed new tariffs of up to 245% on Chinese imports. The announcement, made through a White House fact sheet on Tuesday, signals a sharp escalation in the ongoing U.S.-China trade conflict. China Warns U.S.

China responded strongly on Thursday, warning that it would not engage in what it called a “tariff numbers game.” The Chinese foreign ministry stated that if the United States continues down this path, Beijing will simply “pay no attention” to Washington’s tactics. China Warns U.S.

The White House accused China of retaliatory measures, stating that the 245% tariffs are a direct response to Beijing’s actions. Notably, China had raised its additional tariffs on U.S. imports to 125% last week after the Trump administration previously hiked tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%. China also filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) over the latest U.S. moves.

The fact sheet further accused China of banning the export of crucial high-tech materials like gallium, germanium, antimony, and rare earth elements, which are vital for sectors such as automotive, aerospace, semiconductors, and defense. Just this week, China also suspended exports of six heavy rare earth metals and rare earth magnets, actions the U.S. sees as an attempt to choke off global supply chains.

China criticized the U.S. tariffs, calling them a threat to the rules-based multilateral trading system and claiming they go “against the whole world.”

While over 75 countries are reportedly in talks with the U.S. for new trade deals, the heightened tariffs on China remain in force amid the growing standoff.
