In a key meeting held ahead of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session titled Nyay Path, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unveiled a fresh roadmap aimed at countering the BJP’s political dominance. The strategy centers on social justice, OBC empowerment, and a new vision of national harmony.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led the charge, emphasizing the need to move beyond traditional party narratives. He urged the party to engage more deeply with the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and called for reservation in the private sector to support underprivileged communities. According to Gandhi, reaching out to backward, extremely backward, and most backward groups is vital for regaining political ground, especially in states like Uttar Pradesh.
In a notable shift, the draft resolution avoids the word “secularism” and instead stresses “national harmony” as the Congress’s guiding principle. It also presents the Congress’s vision of inclusive nationalism, contrasting it with what the party calls the BJP’s “pseudo nationalism.”
Rahul Gandhi also insisted that the party should not hesitate to speak up for minorities. He encouraged open support for Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs, who he said are facing increasing marginalization. At the same time, the party acknowledged the importance of not alienating the Hindu majority, aiming for a message of unity rather than division.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also contributed to the discussion, advising the party to focus on positive messaging and building a forward-looking narrative. Tharoor stressed that the Congress must present a clear, hopeful vision for India’s future rather than only criticizing the BJP. He added that reconnecting with voters who abandoned the Congress in recent elections is essential for boosting the party’s national vote share beyond the current 19–20%.
