The Government of India partners with Swiggy to list verified gig jobs on the National Career Service (NCS) portal, aiming to create over 12 lakh jobs in the gig economy over the next 2–3 years.
In a significant step towards strengthening India’s gig economy, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has joined hands with food delivery giant Swiggy to generate employment opportunities in the logistics and gig sectors. The collaboration aims to empower job seekers—especially youth and women—by integrating Swiggy’s verified job listings into the National Career Service (NCS) portal.
Key Highlights:
- Over 12 lakh jobs expected to be created in the next 2–3 years
- Real-time integration of Swiggy’s job listings with the NCS portal
- Special focus on flexible jobs for youth, women, and marginalized groups
- Awareness around digital onboarding, government schemes, and skill development
Strategic MoU to Connect Gig Workers with Verified Opportunities
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in New Delhi, in the presence of Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje. Through this agreement, Swiggy will integrate its delivery partner job openings directly with the government’s NCS portal, offering real-time and verified listings via API-based technology.
Speaking at the event, Minister Mandaviya emphasized the potential of this collaboration:
“This is a major step toward inclusive job creation. Swiggy will gain access to a skilled and job-ready talent pool, while Indian youth and gig workers will benefit from reliable, transparent employment options.”
Empowering the Future Workforce
The MoU prioritizes inclusive employment practices, encouraging participation from women, first-time job seekers, and individuals looking for part-time or flexible roles. Additionally, the collaboration will focus on upskilling initiatives, digital job onboarding, and increasing awareness about government welfare programs relevant to gig workers.
Public-Private Partnership for Economic Growth
Swiggy’s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Dinker Vashisht, called the partnership a powerful example of what public-private collaboration can achieve.
“We’re proud to support India’s workforce by creating accessible gig opportunities. This partnership reflects our belief that digital platforms, when backed by government support, can drive transformative social impact,” he said.
Vision for the Future
The Ministry plans to explore similar partnerships with other private players to transform the NCS portal into a comprehensive platform for employment, training, and career development across sectors, both domestically and internationally.
